We meet unearthed® blogger Emily Hughes


Emily Hughes

We’re delighted to be working with new blogger Emily Hughes – one of our winners of the unearthed® Blogger Scholarship Scheme. She talks to us about how she got into blogging and what she most likes to bake.

Tell us a bit about yourself, what’s your background?

I’m seventeen currently in my final year of my A levels, I live in Cambridgeshire with my family and have enjoyed spending my time in the kitchen baking for as long as I can remember.

How long have you been blogging?

I launched Emily Hughes Bakes about a year ago.

Why did you start blogging? What appealed to you about it? Do you have a specific objective with your blog?

I started my blog because I wanted to share my passion for baking with others, whilst also being able to record all of my baking somewhere. I wouldn’t really say I have an objective with my blog yet, I feel like I’m still getting started, but I would really like to improve my food photography and writing whilst trying to grow my blog and continuing to post regularly.

Favourite bloggers that you read regularly and/or follow on social media?

I am a big fan of Deliciously Ella, Lavender and Lovage, The Little Loaf, and What Olivia Did, and follow them all on social media too.

I started my blog because I wanted to share my passion for baking with others, whilst also being able to record all of my baking somewhere

What’s your favourite thing to cook/bake?

This is probably the hardest question of all as I love making so many things, it changes a lot, I’ve been enjoying making bread recently, but I would say cupcakes will always be my signature bake.

What are you hoping to get out of the unearthed® blogger scheme?

I would love to have the opportunity to meet new people and attend events that I had before only dreamed of being invited to, whilst also learning how to improve my blog and coming up with recipes using lovely Unearthed products.

What’s been your biggest learning so far?

So many, but I would say learning about the importance of the right lighting when taking photos of food is a really important thing that I have learnt along the way, but my food photography still has a long way to go!

Favourite unearthed® product

Mixed Olives with Rosemary and Black Pepper, they are so versatile and add a burst of flavour into all cooking and savoury baking, as well as being delicious on their own!

Favourite food memory

I love Cornwall and have very fond memories of having a Cornish cream tea, sitting overlooking the Lizard in Cornwall at the Polpeor Café with my family. The views of Lizard point from the café are incredible and well worth travelling to Cornwall for!

Place you’d most like to eat?

There are so many places that I would love it visit, especially somewhere like Italy to try authentic Italian breads and pasta. I’m taking a gap year in June so plan to visit a new place each month, as part of my Exploring England series of posts on my blog. One day I hope to one day be able to explore the rest of the world.
